Food Safety Role & Responsibility:

The incumbent is specifically responsible for ensuring that:

1. Training requirements are defined for all positions related to food safety and quality within his/her area of responsibility.

2. Direct reports are trained to complete work assignments, evaluated for effectiveness and documented, and deemed competent to perform their jobs.  When gaps are identified immediate corrective action must be taken.  This includes retraining, coaching, and/or disciplinary actions - which must be documented.

3. Work assignments are communicated to associates.

4. Where the assistance of external experts is required for the development, implementation, operation or assessment of food safety within his/her area of responsibility, records of agreement or contracts defining the responsibility and authority of the external experts are maintained, as well as records of appropriate education, training, skills and experience.

5. New hire orientation is conducted and a training matrix is developed for each area of responsibility.

6. All elements listed in PROC 6.2.2 are enforced- not only those outlined above.

 

As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance/Safety/Security policies and training requirements. Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, HACCP, facility security, visitor policy and mandatory safety training.

 

The individual must also request additional and/or refresher training if he or she feels that it is needed to effectively perform requirements in specific areas of responsibility.

 

Summary:

The Production Supervisor is responsible for shift start-up, fulfillment of customer demands, and coordination of people and materials. This individual will supervise the production of finished goods in keeping with the standards established regarding quality of product, safety of operations, yield, line efficiency and productivity.

 

Job Function Statements Essential Functions:

A Production Supervisor is expected to perform the following essential job functions (detailed):

1. Effectively oversee production start-up and/or shutdown. 

2. Ensure efficient scheduling and production of all orders. 

3. Supervise and develop production employees. 

4. Maintain communication with all levels of organization to ensure order-fill process. 

5. Maintain and improve labor, inventory, and yield goals. 

6. Facilitate and participate in necessary training of production employees.  

7. Review punch detail reports and make corrections to ensure compliance with payroll requirements.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications/Skills:

1. Capable of leading process improvement teams

2. Strong leadership, training, analytical and problem solving skills

3. Knowledge of process improvement-lean manufacturing, 5S, Six-Sigma, Kaizen, etc.

4. Must be willing to work weekends

5. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Stand for the duration of the shift (8 hours or more)

2. Work in a noisy, wet and cold environment of approximately 36 degrees Fahrenheit

 

Other Desired Qualifications/Skills:

Industrial Engineer degree preferred

Bilingual English/Spanish

 

Experience:

1-3 years' experience in production supervision within a food processing and packaging environment or equivalent

 

Education/Training:

Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience
