Food Safety Role & Responsibility:
The incumbent is specifically responsible for ensuring that:
1. Training requirements are defined for all positions related to food safety and quality within his/her area of responsibility.
2. Work assignments are communicated to associates.
3. Where the assistance of external experts is required for the development, implementation, operation or assessment of food safety within his/her area of responsibility, records of agreement or contracts defining the responsibility and authority of the external experts are maintained, as well as records of appropriate education, training, skills and experience.
4. New hire orientation is conducted and a training matrix is developed for each area of responsibility.
5. All elements listed in PROC 6.2.2 are enforced- not only those outlined above.

As an individual, the incumbent must understand the Food Safety Statement, complete the required training, perform work assignments in accordance with training and display an acceptable level of competency with all Quality Assurance/Safety/Security policies and training requirements. Areas of food safety training will include, but are not limited to, GMP, HACCP, facility security, visitor policy and mandatory safety training. Some additional items include: first aid certification, OSHA certification, QRT, and outreach safety training.

The individual must also request additional and/or refresher training if he or she feels that it is needed to effectively perform requirements in specific areas of responsibility.

The incumbent is responsible for all facets of Safety/Health/Security and regulatory compliance of all associates and temps/contractors in the manufacturing facility in Grand Prairie, TX. The Safety & Security Manager will act as a resource to all areas of the facility and other national and international sites. This person will also ensure compliance to all local, state and federal laws.

Job Function Statements Essential Functions:
1. Champion safety, health, environmental, and security issues for a fresh food processing facility with approximately 170 total employees.
2. Standardize safety processes, safety policies, and reports.
3. Develop new strategies to improve management education, accountability, coaching and support.
4. Develop active and well-focused incentive programs that reward safe behavior and accident prevention without creating culture of entitlement.
5. Help with capital justifications regarding compliance issues.
6. Positioning safety in a broader context, integrating with food safety, security, and quality.
7. Approve safety engineering project upgrades.
8. Help to instill hold management accountability for safety and health issues within their department/facilities.
9. Conduct mock OSHA inspections and serve as the regulatory liaison for safety, security, and environmental regulators.
10. Drive environmental compliance issues.
11. Conduct management level training in safety, health, and security.
12. Administer workers compensation insurance programs.
13. Manage onsite Security for facilities.
14. Ensure that the exposure Control Plan in accordance with the Bloodborne pathogen standard codified as 29 CFR 1910.1030 and with the first aid standard codified at 29 CFR 1910.151 is thoroughly followed.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
1. Knowledge of OSHA and EPA Environmental regulations
2. Effective written and verbal communication skills
3. Ability to train associates at all levels of the organization
4. Must work well with others in a team atmosphere
5. Must be able to understand and respond to a diverse population
6. Must have strong multi-tasking skills
7. Computer literacy
8. Must be able to withstand frequent exposure to a cold/wet environment

Other Desired Qualifications/Skills:
1. Bilingual English/Spanish
2. Project management experience a plus
3. Food industry experience

3 - 5 years of management and safety/health/security experience

Bachelor of Science in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Engineering or related field
